Meet James E. Carlson D.D.S.
Dr. Carlson received his dental education at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry and was graduated in 1964. He spent three years as a dentist in the US Navy from 1964 to 1967. He began his first dental practice in Palmer, Alaska and served there as the president of the Southcentral District Dental Society. He also served as the president of the Alaska Chapter of the American Society of Dentistry for Children. He moved to Washington State in 1974 and has served as president of the Mount Baker District Dental Society. He is a past member of the American Dental Association, the American Equilibration Society, the American Association for Functional Jaw Orthopedics, International Association for Orthodontics, Holistic Dental Association, the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain, and the Advisory Board of the Price Pottenger Foundation.
For over 10 years, while in private practice in Bellevue, Washington, he limited his services to treating TMD and Facial Pain. He has studied extensively in the area of cranial facial pain and TMJ dysfunction, orthodontics, and craniofacial orthopedics during the past 35 years. He was a featured instructor teaching occlusion at the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies for 3 years. He is the developer of the AccuLiner articulator and the author of several books, manuals, and articles relating to the AccuLiner, occlusion, dentition design, edentulous patients, removable prosthetics, the stomatognathic system, and comprehensive patient care. For over a span of 20 years he taught several hundred dentists and dental technicians how to care for edentulous patients and how to fabricate removable replacement teeth on the AccuLiner. He was awarded a US Patent for the wax AccuRim™ design used in denture fabrication. Dr. Carlson is the founder and developer of the concepts of functional kinematic dentition design, and the comprehensive patient care method used to treat disorders of the stomatognathic system. In 2005 he was one of two North American dentists invited to speak at the World Congress of Posturology in Bucharest, Romania.
He was the clinical director of Fit Technology in Woodinville, Washington in addition to teaching courses and seminars on occlusion, comprehensive analysis and diagnosis, removable prosthetics, and care for edentulous patients throughout the United States, Canada, Australia, and Europe. Currently Dr. Carlson resides in Lake Stevens, Washington just north of Seattle.
